It’s Time to Get Your Tickets for the Festival of Science

The Festival of Science and Science Fair are coming soon — it’s time to get your tickets. Here’s what you need to do (well, you don’t *need* to do anything but c’mon, this one’s a blast so get on the trolley!):

  1. Mark your calendar! It’s on a THURSDAY this year, March 15, 2018
  2. Register your family for the Festival of Science (even if your student is not entering the Science Fair) Do it now to save $5!
  3. Register your student(s) for the Science Fair (and a chance to win a Cozmo robot or a family adventure at Escape Factor)
  4. Sign-up to help at one of the fun Hands-On Stations

Keep in mind that you don’t have to be showing at the Science Fair in order to attend the Festival of Science.

We still have some unmanned stations and need wonderful Willard parents to help us make this a success. We need volunteers for:

Clay Boats
Electric Circuits
Racing Ramps
Static Electricity
Cartesian Diver

See what’s still available and volunteer today!  If your child is going, maybe help out while you’re there!

You Have Pleased the Box Tops Bear!
Thank you Willard for a successful Box Top collection! The Box Top Bear was fed by over 50 participating families for a grand total of $450 in earnings! Be on the lookout for the raffle winner to be announced next week.

One Earth Film Festival

Join us for the screening of The Gateway Bug at Roosevelt on Tuesday, March 6. Doors open at 5:30 pm, film at 6 pm.

The Gateway Bug brings to the table the environmental benefits of eating insects and the issues of world hunger and a diminishing food supply. The film asks viewers to step outside their comfort zone, and think about feeding humanity by unconventional means. Ideal for kids 8 and up.

Connect4Kids Event:
Helping you and Your Child Cope with Traumatic Events

How do we help children digest all that they see around them—including the pain of traumatic events such as mass school shootings—on the news, the internet, social media and even in their own communities? Mental health professionals from Smart Love Family Services, a not for profit counseling agency in Oak Park, will answer this question utilizing Smart Love’s years of experience and expertise working with parents and children. The presenters will share information from a child development perspective—that is, guidelines on what and how much to share based on a child’s developmental stage.
